What got us here?

A timeline of the journey of founder Alex Manalo that led to the creation of the Manalo Movement.

Younger Years Movement

  • Theater summer camps and rigorous performing arts training

  • Being taught that “yes, and…” was the only way

  • Learned the hard truth about type casting

College Age Movement

  • Studied musical theater at two different universities

  • Began finding a voice, even after two vocal surgeries

  • Between schools and learned that finding a community was challenging

Post-Grad Movement

  • Turned to nannying and caretaking and observed gentle parenting

  • Faced adversities while working in the service industry

  • Started to choreograph for high schools and enjoyed it

Theater Teacher Movement

  • Pursued full-time teaching of dance and theater (and often virtually)

  • Longed to change school systems

  • Dreamed of turning learned knowledge and experiences into workshops

Manalo Movement

  • Became fascinated by intimacy choreography and started training

  • Sought out standardized patient work and learned about trauma-informed practices

  • Turned that dream into a reality and took a leap of faith into creating this business

Why now?

Now is a pivotal time to create movements that change the narrative to help make the world a better place.

While it may take some time and a significant amount of unlearning old methods, the Manalo Movement has the cross-generational advantage to bridge the gap and help others see through the eyes of another.

Healthier practices start with one person sparking the conversation, and we are ready.
